So…as I’m busily recording this EP, hearing new interpretations of old music (to me, anyway) undoing about 32 years worth of unsupervised vocalizing, it’s coming at me hard and heavy that I’d better get busy and let people KNOW about this thing. It’s going to be a great record–I have no doubt that fans will love it–the only problem is…I need me some fans!
There is already a solid group of you out there. And you’re wonderful. Many of you have known me since before it ever occurred to me that I could maybe write my own songs and sing them. Many of you have met me within the last year. Then, there are a few people from all walks of life in between that for whatever reason, identify in some way with what I’m trying to do here, and have your own appreciation for it. And thank you for that. If it weren’t for you, I would have a realistic impression that this project is 100%, indisputably, for me. And no one else.
And this project is for me. But, more than that, it’s for all of you. It’s for all of you who have stood by me lo these many (many!) years, and happily listened to whatever new song I might have had, whenever it was. Thanks for still being out there, and thanks for remembering that I’m still here, too!
Anyway…so here’s what we did.
We took the old favorites from my early stuff–some of yours, some of mine, and we’re doing them up mostly rustic, acoustic-style. We’ve got a few that are fuller-production, and we’re using some fun instruments–mandolin, string bass, etc. to breathe some new life into them. You’re going to love ’em! I’m hoping to follow up in a year or so with a full-length album–with completely different songs–and consider it a Part II of sorts. But, for that to happen, Part I needs to make a splash.
For the moment, I am looking for places to play! And a sound system that I can haul around with me in my sedan that will make me sound like Celine Dion. Well, if she was American, and Montanan, and sarcastic as hell. Any ideas?
More to come!
Hugs and sloppy kisses,
-Dana Jo
