When Waylon Died
(C) 2002 Dana Jo Forseth
They said we lost a legend
When the legend passed away
They said no one would ever take his place
They played a couple of his songs
On the radio that day
And they said that music wouldn’t be the same.
Then a day went by, and then another
And how quickly they seemed to forget
Don’t they know the Rough and Rowdy Days are over?
Can’t they see we’ve seen the last real Ramblin’ Man?
Don’t they realize what’s gone is gone forever
And we should be remembering while we can?
Am I the only one
Whose tears haven’t dried?
I didn’t understand them
When Waylon Jennings died.
So, I wasn’t even born yet
When he sang his biggest songs
I never knew what country was before him
But Good Ol’ Boys are hard to find
And when one comes along
You wonder
What is country gonna be without him?
And the day went by, and then another
And I’m still not over it yet
Don’t they know the Rough and Rowdy Days are over?
Can’t they see we’ve seen the last real Ramblin’ Man?
Don’t they realize what’s gone is gone forever
And we should be remembering while we can?
Am I the only one
Whose tears haven’t dried?
Nobody understood me
When Waylon Jennings died.
They said we lost a legend
When the legend passed away
They said no one would ever take his place
They played a couple of his songs
On the radio that day
And they said that music wouldn’t be the same.
